The Lawyer Engagement Election Protection (LEEP) Program

This election season, Ohio faces novel legal and safety threats that require novel legal solutions. As our legal system goes through one of the biggest stress-tests in our nation’s history, we need experts and practitioners to stand up for democracy at every opportunity.

The LEEP program matches legal professionals with individuals and organizations fighting on the front lines to protect Ohio’s democracy — through trainings, events, and direct election protection opportunities including serving as a legal rover on Election Day.

The 2026 LEEP Program is nonpartisan and all program activities are 501(c)3 compliant. LEEP is led by Ohioans Against Extremism in collaboration with Ohio Democracy Project, All Voting is Local, Common Cause Ohio, and Ohioans for the Rule of Law.

What Legal Rovers Do

Legal rovers are trained legal professionals who are on call on Election Day, ready to dispatch to polling locations, boards of elections, courthouses, and other sites to observe, confirm facts on the ground, seek documentation, and troubleshoot legal issues in real time.
