In 2023, spotlighting extremists in school board races was straightforward, and it was a huge success. But this year, they’ve gotten sneakier.
Last school board election cycle (2023), it was fairly easy to find and track over 100 extremist candidates for school boards throughout Ohio. That’s because dozens of extreme state and national organizations publicly promoted their favorite candidates.
Designated hate groups like Moms For Liberty released long lists of endorsements. We simply gathered all that data about endorsements and promises made on the campaign trail, and used it to publicize over 100 dangerous candidates throughout Ohio.
It turns out, most Ohioans just want a normal, old fashioned, low drama school board.
In 2023, tracking candidates was a huge success. Over 70 of the extremist candidates lost their races.
When it comes to researching extreme candidates, this cycle is very different from 2023.
Many of these groups have gone silent or private. They’ve realized that mainstream voters don’t want anything to do with the dangerous policies and rhetoric espoused by these extremists.
There aren’t many endorsements coming out publicly this year. Extremists are working much harder to hide and sneak in undetected, but they often can’t help but show their true colors.
So we need your help. Help us identify candidates with red flags in your area. Send us screenshots. Send us links. Anything you got.
